The Cold Death is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The episode first aired on October 6, 1996. It is the 343rd episode of the crime scene and the tenth episode with Ludwigshafen investigator Lena Odenthal . For Mario Kopper this is his first case, which he has to solve together with his colleague.

Professor Dr. Sorensky is a forensic doctor and, due to his often cynical nature, is not very popular with his students. Nevertheless, he likes to chase after the female students and in particular Stella Eisner is harassed by him. Your friend Hendryk Dornbusch does not want to allow that and gives the professor a lesson. However, he finds out about it and turns the tables. He brings Stella under his control and enjoys finally having her to herself. He hides her in a forensic medicine basement.
When the disappearance of the young woman is noticed and a homicide is suspected, the Ludwigshafen commissioner Lena Odenthal and her new assistant Mario Kopper are supposed to take care of the case. The first suspicion falls on Hendryk Dornbusch, who was seen with blood-smeared clothes and has now also disappeared. During her investigation, Odenthal also comes across the charismatic forensic doctor Sorensky, who is shocked by the disappearance of his student and tells the inspector that he and Stella wanted to get married.
From their car, Odenthal and Kopper observe the goings-on in forensic medicine and whether someone might want to illegally remove a corpse from there. The inspector notices that Professor Sorensky puts two heavy metal containers in his car and drives away. She follows him to his house and is surprised there by Hendryk Dornbusch. He takes her service weapon from her and tries to convince her that the professor killed his girlfriend. The inspector believes him as desperate as he is behaving, but she cannot prevent the young man from escaping again.
Odenthal investigates the suspicions against Sorensky and researches the death circumstances of his wife, who has been dead for five years. Allegedly she had cancer and Sorensky admits that she autopsied out of "sentimental interest". The inspector is secretly observing him and is able to prevent an attack by Hendryk Dornbusch on the professor who was waiting for him in his house. Although the student is arrested as a suspect, Odenthal has the professor's house searched for traces of Stella Eisner. But the search remains unsuccessful and even the metal containers only contain meat for the cats. It seems that Sorensky is playing a strange game with the investigator.
While Odenthal is talking to the professor, his colleague Dr. Found something quickly. But before he can report it to the police, he has an asthma attack and goes into a coma because he cannot find his spray in time. Odenthal more and more doubts about Sorensky, whose dark side is revealed more and more. He may have sent his victim in parts to other institutes for research purposes. The examination of a preparation indicates this. To get certainty, Sorensky appoints her to the forensic medicine department of the institute in which he works. She confronts him with her suspicion and a tissue sample found in Dr. Rasch's laboratory was found. The professor then admits that he wanted her to find out. He would have loved Stella and now he wants to show her what she wants to see. He goes with Odenthal to one of the forensic medicine basement rooms, where he actually kept the student's remains. Sorensky takes advantage of the detective's shock phase and overwhelms her, but she still manages to shoot him. Before he can kill her too, he collapses dead.
