action

LKA undercover agent Ben Broder and his partner Wilhelm Feindt are on the trail of the fugitive gang boss Santos. When Broder is distracted by a suspicious noise and investigates the cause, the enemy is shot at. Mortally injured, Feindt is brought to a clinic, where Broder visits him every day.

Commissioner Lena Odenthal receives the order from Kriminalrat Friedrich to take over the murder. She is supposed to work with Ben Broder, but the latter is very dismissive and fears that the planned arrest of Santos will be endangered. Inevitably, he confides in the Commissioner and explains to her that Santos organized illegal gambling on a large scale, in which politicians, industrialists and even police officers are involved. According to Broder's findings, Santos wants to meet his competitor Tauber in the next 72 hours on the "Rheindampfer Switzerland", which serves as an illegal casino. They are planning a deal that Broder wants to prevent and Santos to convict at the same time. Thus, disguised as a gambler, he sets off on “Switzerland” with Lena Odenthal as his companion. There he meets his informant and tries to find out whether there is someone who knows who could have shot his colleague. However, he has no success with this.

After Wilhelm Feindt dies unexpectedly in the clinic and it cannot be ruled out that someone helped with his death, Ben Broder is now suspected of having cleared his colleague out of the way. However, this cannot be conclusively proven, but it cannot be refuted either. Despite all the skepticism towards Broder, Odenthal knows that she must not endanger the actual mission of the LKA man. After Broder's informant announces the meeting between Sandos and Tauber, the two investigators first have to concentrate on it. In addition to the arrest of the gang boss, Broder hopes to find a list on which the politicians and police officers bribed by Sandos are recorded. Odenthal accompanies Broder to the hotel where the two gangsters want to meet. While Broder secretly breaks into Santo's room to look for the ominous list, Odenthal is supposed to keep his back free. She succeeds, but unfortunately Broder cannot find the list. Contrary to expectations, the meeting of Sandos and Tauber does not take place in the hotel, but on the "Switzerland". Broder and Odenthal manage to get on board secretly, but also separately. When Odenthal meets Broder, he shot the two gang bosses in alleged self-defense. After a fire breaks out in Tauber's cabin, the list you are looking for is very likely destroyed, but the weapon that was used to shoot the enemy can be found there.

For Odenthal, the case seems to have been resolved, while the Kriminalrat is not satisfied. For him, Broder is still the main suspect. And he was right. Broder actually killed his colleague because Broder's name was on Santo's list and he feared that Feindt would have betrayed him. After Broder shoots at Odenthal's colleague Seidel, Odenthal also takes up a gun and kills Broder fatally.
