Matthew Howson
Matthew "Matt" Howson (born August 25, 1983 in Norwich , Norfolk ) is a British racing driver . He has been driving in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) since 2013 . He achieved a class win at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 2015 .
Career
Howson began his motorsport career in formula racing in 2001 in the British Formula Renault winter championship , in which he finished tenth for Manor Motorsport . In 2002 Howson started in the junior championship of the British Formula Ford and reached eighth place. He then competed in the British Formula Ford winter championship and finished fifth with a podium. In 2003 Howson competed for Medina Sport in the regular British Formula Ford Championship. With two third and two second places, he finished the season in ninth place. In the following winter series he was overall runner- up for the JLR team .
In 2004, Howson initially took part in four British Formula Ford races for Ray Sport . He then moved to the SWR Pioneer team in the British Formula BMW . In this he won a race and was twelfth overall. In 2005, Howson stayed in the British Formula BMW and competed for Filsell Motorsport . With four wins he was third in the championship. In the following world final of the Formula BMW championships he achieved ninth place. In 2006, Howson was again without a full-time cockpit. For Filsell Motorsport he took part in two races of the British Formula Renault and four races of the British Formula BMW. He won a Formula BMW race.
In 2007 Howson was without engagement because he could not raise the budget for another motorsport career in Europe. He made two guest starts in the British Porsche Carrera Cup . He then drove in the Asian Formula 3 championship for PTRS Racing in the winter of 2007/08 . He won two races and was second overall behind Frédéric Vervisch with 229 to 322 points . In 2008 he drove two races in the B class of the Asian GT Championship, which he won both.
After a two-year break, Howson returned to motorsport in 2011 . Meanwhile, Howson had graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University . He was registered for SGC by KCMG in the second half of the season in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship . There he was seventh in the championship. In 2012, Howson stayed with the racing team and took part in five of seven events in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship. With a seventh place as the best result, he remained without points.
In 2013 , Howson switched to endurance racing and received an LMP2 cockpit for one race at KCMG in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). He also made a guest appearance in the 2013 WEC 24-hour Le Mans race . In 2014 , Howson was a regular driver at KCMG in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Richard Bradley was his teammate at every race. Alexandre Imperatori and Tsugio Matsuda shared the third driver's seat . Bradley and Howson won LMP2 three times. Twice with Imperatori, once with Matsuda. In the world championship, Bradley and Howson reached 13th place. In 2015 Bradley and Howson drove again for KCMG in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Third place this year is shared by Nick Tandy and Nicolas Lapierre . Bradley, Howson and Lapierre won the LMP2 class together at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . Bradley and Howson achieved another LMP2 class win with Tandy. Bradley and Howson finished the season in eleventh place overall.

In addition to his work as a racing driver, Howson has been active as a driver trainer since 2004. From 2008 to 2010 he worked for Raikkonen Robertson Racing . He has held this position at Fortec Motorsports since 2011 . Among other things, he looked after Jake Dennis , Alex Lynn , Matthew Parry , Oliver Rowland and Will Stevens in this role .
