Alexander George "Alex" Lynn (born September 17, 1993 in London ) is a British automobile racing driver . In 2013 he won the Formula 3 race of the Macau Grand Prix , and in 2014 he won the GP3 series . He competed in the GP2 series in 2015 and 2016 .

Career

Lynn began his motorsport career in karting in 2005 , where he was active until 2009. That year he also made his debut for Fortec Motorsport in the winter series of the British Formula Renault , which he finished in tenth place. In 2010, Lynn competed with Fortec Motorsport in the British Formula Renault. While his teammate Tom Blomqvist won the championship, Lynn finished tenth with a third place as the best result. He then competed again for Fortec in the winter series of the British Formula Renault. Lynn won three out of six races and was the champion ahead of his teammate Joni Wiman . In 2011, Lynn began the season for Giles Motorsport in the Toyota Racing Series , the highest single- seater series in New Zealand. He competed in four out of five events and won one race for himself. In the final classification he was in ninth place, while his teammate Mitch Evans was champion. He then returned to Fortec Motorsport in the British Formula Renault. Lynn made a dominant start to the season and achieved seven pole positions and victories in the first eight races . At the end of the season he had 12 wins, 14 pole positions and 10 fastest laps from 20 races. With 521 points, Lynn finally won the championship title ahead of his teammate Oliver Rowland , who was runner-up with 475 points. Lynn also took part in four races of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . There he achieved a pole position and a second place as the best result. He was 14th in the drivers' championship.

At the beginning of 2012, Lynn took part in the winter series of the European F3 Open for Team West-Tec . He then competed in the British Formula 3 championship for Fortec Motorsport in 2012 . He won a race and finished fourth overall with a total of nine podium finishes. In addition, he made six guest starts for Fortec Motorsport in the Formula 3 Euro Series and competed in the Macau Grand Prix . There he came third. In early 2013 , Lynn took part in the Toyota Racing Series for M2 Competition . With three wins and a total of nine podium finishes, he was runner-up. With 803 to 915 points he lost to his teammate Nick Cassidy . Lynn then competed in the European Formula 3 championship in 2013 for the Prema Powerteam . Lynn won three races and finished on the podium 14 times. Lynn reached third place in the overall standings and was thus defeated by his teammate Raffaele Marciello , who won the championship. In addition, Lynn won the Macau Grand Prix with Prema in 2013 and came second in the Formula 3 Masters .

In 2014 , Lynn competed for Carlin in the GP3 series and was accepted into Red Bull 's sponsorship program. Already in his GP3 debut race in Barcelona he scored a victory starting from pole position. Further victories followed in Spielberg and Spa-Francorchamps . Lynn led the championship consistently and finally won it with a total of eight podium finishes. He only failed to score twice. With 207 to 163 points he was finally ahead of Dean Stoneman . In addition, Lynn took part in Formula 1 test drives for Lotus for the first time .

In 2015 , Lynn moved to DAMS in the GP2 series . Lynn also became a Formula 1 development driver at Williams . As a result, Lynn announced that she had retired from Red Bull's sponsorship program. He scored his first victory in the sprint race in Barcelona . In Mogyoród he won the main race. He finished the season in sixth place overall. He was tied with his teammate Pierre Gasly , who was eighth overall. In 2016 , Lynn stayed with DAMS in the GP2 series. He won in Barcelona , Hockenheim and on Yas Island . In the championship he again reached sixth place. With 124 to 23 points, he clearly prevailed against his teammate Nicholas Latifi .

After he immediately achieved pole position as a substitute driver for DS Virgin in the FIA Formula E Championship at the New York City ePrix 2017 , he was given a permanent cockpit at DS Virgin for the 2017/18 season . He finished the season with a sixth place as the best result in 16th place overall.

For the 2018/19 season , he initially no longer received a contract as a regular driver. From the Rome E-Prix he replaced Nelson Piquet jr. at Jaguar Racing . With ten points he finished 18th in the drivers' championship at the end of the season.
