Buemi and di Grassi received the fifth FanBoost in the fifth race of the season and the twelfth each in the FIA Formula E Championship, for Sarrazin it was the first FanBoost of the season.
training
In the first free practice, Buemi was fastest with a lap time of 52.795 seconds ahead of Prost and Sarrazin. Training was stopped two minutes before the end after Felix Rosenqvist collided with Oliver Turvey .
Buemi was also fastest in the second free practice, this time in 52.729 seconds, ahead of Sam Bird and di Grassi.
Qualifying
Qualifying started at 12:00 p.m. and took place in four groups of five drivers each, each group had six minutes in which the drivers had a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 170 kW and then a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 200 kW were allowed to drive. Jean-Éric Vergne was fastest with a lap time of 53.286 seconds.
The five fastest drivers then drove in the first five positions in the individual time trial called Superpole . Buemi secured pole position with a lap time of 53.313 seconds and thus three points. The other positions were occupied by di Grassi, Vergne, Nelson Piquet jr. and Maro Engel .
Loïc Duval was disqualified after qualifying because he drove more than the allowed number of laps.
run
The race lasted 51 laps. At the start, Sarrazin stopped, started the race late and fell back to the end of the field. When braking into the first corner, there was a rear-end collision on the inside lane, Daniel Abt ran into José María López , who in turn ran into Rosenqvist. Nick Heidfeld and Bird stayed on the outside when approaching the first corner and thus gained several positions.
At the end of the first lap, Buemi was leading ahead of di Grassi, Piquet, Vergne, Heidfeld, Engel, Bird, Rosenqvist, Robin Frijns and López.
Buemi managed to break away at the top. Di Grassi also pulled away from Piquet, who was stopping Vergne. On the seventh lap, Bird made a mistake and hit the barrier with the right rear wheel. The suspension broke, he drove slowly back to the pits, where the mechanics tried to repair the suspension. He lost three laps as a result.
On the ninth lap, the López race control showed the fried egg flag , as the front and rear wings, which were damaged in the start-up collision, had come loose. He too lost more than a full lap on repairs.
On lap 14, Abt overtook Frijns when braking into turn three and was now in eighth place. Bird, who had meanwhile changed cars, drove the fastest lap of the race to date.
Vergne put Piquet under more and more pressure and tried several times to pass turn three . On lap 21 he sat down on the outside next to Piquet, who did not give in. The vehicles collided and Vergne hit the lane at turn four . For him, the race ended with a broken suspension. Piquet drove on, but had to let Heidfeld pass. The race management sent the safety car out onto the track to rescue Vergne's vehicle .
This took Mitch Evans , Duval, Jérôme D'Ambrosio , Adam Carroll and Sarrazin for vehicle change on lap 21, the minimum time for the vehicle change was 53 seconds. On the following lap, all other drivers changed their vehicles.
After the pit stops, Buemi led in front of di Grassi, Heidfeld, Piquet, Engel, Rosenqvist, Abt, Frijns, Esteban Gutiérrez and António Félix da Costa .
On lap 29, D'Ambrosio stopped on the track, but managed to start the car again and pits. Bird set the fastest lap of the race again shortly afterwards.
Di Grassi had more energy than Buemi in the final phase of the race, so that he shortened the gap and was right behind Buemi on the last lap. However, he was no longer able to launch an attack. Félix da Costa subsequently received a drive-through penalty, which was converted into a 33-second time penalty for obstructing Turvey in the pit lane.
Buemi won ahead of di Grassi and Heidfeld. The remaining points were placed by Piquet, Engel, Rosenqvist, Abt, Gutiérrez, Nicolas Prost and Evans. The point for the fastest race lap went to Bird.
