This threw him back from 10th place to 17th place.
run
The race lasted 47 laps. There was no introductory lap before the race, the vehicles were two rows behind their actual positions on the starting grid and rolled up to them before the start.
Buemi started well and kept the top position in front of di Grassi, D'Ambrosio and Piquet, behind which Prost attacked Daniel Abt on the outside . Alguersuari ran into Vitantonio Liuzzi when braking against the Sainte Dévote , his front suspension broke and the race was over for him. Vergne and Durán also collided slightly, with Vergne damaging the front wing. At the exit of the Sainte Dévote, Prost and Abbot collided, Abbot crashed into the guardrail , triggering a chain reaction. Senna, who was driving directly behind Abt, could not avoid it and crashed into the rear of Abt. His vehicle lifted off and almost overturned, but came to a halt again on the wheels. Durán, driving immediately behind Senna, also collided with Abt's vehicle, causing the right front wheel suspension of his car to break. Vergne, who was driving directly behind Durán, was also unable to evade, and his front suspension broke. Scott Speed drove on his team mate Vergne, Duval collided with Speed, which also broke his suspension and Heidfeld drove on Duval. Senna had to park his vehicle on the edge of the road. The safety car was sent out to recover the vehicles and the debris .
Abt, Durán, Duval, Liuzzi and Vergne made it with their damaged vehicles into the pit lane, where they changed vehicles. However, they no longer had a realistic chance of being able to contest the race to the end.
The race was reopened at the beginning of lap four, Buemi was in front of di Grassi, D'Ambrosio, Piquet, Stéphane Sarrazin , Prost, Bird, Jarno Trulli , Speed and Heidfeld. One lap later, Piquet used his FanBoost on the start-finish straight to attack D'Ambrosio, but did not get past Sainte Dévote on the outside . However, he succeeded in doing this shortly after braking on the hairpin curve. Shortly afterwards, Heidfeld and Félix da Costa were able to pass Speed, whose front wing was damaged by the start-up collision.
Heidfeld attacked Trulli on lap 17 when braking at the hairpin bend, and the vehicles came into slight contact. Félix da Costa tried to take advantage of the situation and pass Heidfeld on the outside, but the vehicles also came into contact. As a result of the two minor collisions, the front wing of Heidfeld's car was damaged.
On lap 19, Abt gave up the race. One lap later, Bird passed Prost while braking at Sainte Dévote and thus took sixth place.
At the end of lap 24, di Grassi, Sarrazin, Prost, Heidfeld and Félix da Costa were the first drivers to make their scheduled vehicle changes. The minimum time to change vehicles was 73 seconds. Prost passed Sarrazin and Félix da Costa past Heidfeld with a shorter pit stop. D'Ambrosio, Bird, Trulli, Chandhok and Pic followed a lap later. Bird passed D'Ambrosio and Pic passed Trulli and Chandhok. On lap 26, the last three remaining drivers, Buemi, Piquet and Speed, changed their vehicles.
Buemi came back on the track just before di Grassi and kept the lead. Di Grassi tried to pass on the outside in the hairpin but Buemi was able to defend himself. Behind was Piquet, followed by Bird, D'Ambrosio, Prost, Sarrazin, Félix da Costa, Speed and Pic. Pic passed Speed shortly afterwards.
Duval gave up the race on lap 30, the energy of his vehicle, which he had already changed at the end of the first lap, was used up. Bird put pressure on Piquet and attacked him on the outside while braking at Sainte Dévote , but couldn't get past. In the following laps Buemi significantly expanded his lead over di Grassi. Vergne used his FanBoost and set the fastest lap of the race.
Piquet caught up with di Grassi and put him under pressure. He used his FanBoost on lap 42 , but di Grassi managed to defend second place. On lap 43 there was a slight contact between the vehicles when braking into the hairpin bend, but both drivers were able to continue. Piquet lost contact with di Grassi and was attacked by Bird on the last lap.
Buemi won the race ahead of di Grassi and Piquet. For Buemi it was the second win of the season after he had already won the Punta del Este ePrix . Buemi thus became the first driver to win a second ePrix and the first driver to win an ePrix by starting from pole position. Bird, D'Ambrosio, Prost, Sarrazin, Pic, Félix da Costa and Heidfeld completed the top 10. Speed, who achieved eighth place, was subsequently given a drive-through penalty that was converted into a 33-second penalty for using too much energy. He fell back to twelfth place. The two points for the fastest race lap went to Vergne.
In the drivers' championship, di Grassi slightly increased his lead over Piquet, with Buemi taking third place. In the constructors' championship, e.dams also extended their lead over Abt and Virgin.
