The Berlin ePrix 2015 (officially: 2015 FIA Formula E DHL Berlin ePrix ) took place on May 23rd at the Formula E race track Berlin (Tempelhof) in Berlin , Germany and was the eighth race of the 2014 FIA Formula E championship / 15 . It was the first Berlin ePrix, the second race of the FIA Formula E Championship in Europe and the first Formula E race on an airfield circuit .

After the Monaco ePrix , Lucas di Grassi led the drivers' standings with four points ahead of Nelson Piquet Jr. and with ten points ahead of Sébastien Buemi . In the team standings, e.dams was 45 points ahead of Audi Sport Abt and 66 points ahead of Virgin .
The race was originally planned for May 30th, but was brought forward a week at the beginning of February 2015 because the new Moscow ePrix 2015 in the racing calendar took place on June 6th, 2015.
Buemi, Charles Pic and Piquet received a so-called FanBoost , they were allowed to increase the output of each of their two cars for a maximum of five seconds from 150 kW (204 hp) to 180 kW (245 hp) during the race. Buemi and Pic received their first FanBoost , Piquet their third. With the NEXTEV TCR Formula E Team , a team received the FanBoost for both drivers for the first time ; Jean-Éric Vergne missed out on the FanBoost vote for the first time since joining the FIA Formula E Championship .

Buemi was fastest in the first free practice with a lap time of 1: 23.158 minutes ahead of Nick Heidfeld and Jaime Alguersuari . The training had to be interrupted twice after initially part of the track was on the track and later there were problems with the timing.
Di Grassi set the best time in the second free practice session in 1: 22.032 minutes ahead of Nicolas Prost and Jérôme D'Ambrosio .
Qualifying
Qualifying started at 12:00 p.m. and took place in four groups of five drivers each, each group had 10 minutes to set a fast lap.
Jarno Trulli set the fastest time in 1: 21.547 minutes ahead of di Grassi and Buemi. It was his first pole position in the FIA Formula E Championship and the first and only one for the Trulli Formula E Team .

The race lasted 33 laps. There was no introductory lap before the race, the vehicles were two rows behind their actual positions on the starting grid and rolled up to them before the start.
Trulli stayed ahead of di Grassi and Buemi at the start. In turn two , di Grassi passed Trulli, who braked himself . Behind it, Daniel Abt turned and fell back to last place. At the end of the first lap, di Grassi was leading ahead of Trulli, Buemi, Nick Heidfeld , Prost, D'Ambrosio, Vitantonio Liuzzi , Loïc Duval , Stéphane Sarrazin and Piquet. Piquet used his FanBoost in the second round to get past Sarrazin. D'Ambrosio and Liuzzi passed Prost one after the other. At the front, di Grassi was able to extend his lead lap by lap and after five laps was already more than seven seconds ahead of Trulli.
In the sixth lap, Buemi used his FanBoost to pass Trulli. On the seventh lap, Heidfeld and D'Ambrosio also passed Trulli, and shortly afterwards Liuzzi also overtook his team-mate. Prost also fell behind at this time and had to let Duval, Piquet, Sarrazin, Vergne, Sam Bird and António Félix da Costa pass one after the other . One lap later, Duval, Piquet and Sarrazin passed Trulli, and Trulli subsequently lost even more positions.
Heidfeld and D'Ambrosio put Buemi under pressure, but couldn't get past him. Sarrazin passed Piquet on lap twelve and was now in seventh place. On the same lap, D'Ambrosio overtook Heidfeld. Di Grassi was in control of the race, at this point he was twelve seconds ahead.
At the end of lap 16, Sarrazin and Trulli, the first drivers to pits to change vehicles, the minimum time for changing vehicles was 63 seconds. Vergne, Félix da Costa and Bird passed Piquet, who, however, had by far the most energy left. On lap 17, with the exception of team mates Piquet and Pic, all the other drivers came to the pits to change vehicles. D'Ambrosio was able to pass Buemi with a shorter pit stop. Félix da Costa passed Liuzzi and Vergne, but fell one second below the minimum time for changing vehicles. The same thing happened to his teammate Salvador Durán , who passed Jaime Alguersuari and Scott Speed .
After the vehicle changes, di Grassi was ten seconds ahead of D'Ambrosio and Buemi, followed by Heidfeld, Duval, Sarrazin, Félix da Costa, Piquet, Vergne and Bird. Bird attacked Vergne on lap 19, but Vergne was able to defend himself and the cars touched slightly. At this point, Duval drove the fastest lap of the race so far, one lap later Piquet drove the fastest lap. The two Amlin Aguri drivers, Félix da Costa and Durán, received drive-through fines because they had not kept the minimum time when changing vehicles. Félix da Costa fell to twelfth, Durán to 20th.
Heidfeld briefly passed Buemi, who was able to counter shortly afterwards. Duval then put Heidfeld under pressure for several laps. Sarrazin and Piquet caught up with both. Piquet used his FanBoost to pass Sarrazin, Duval and Piquet passed Heidfeld one lap later. Bruno Senna received a drive-through penalty for driving too fast in the pit lane. Trulli gave up the race on lap 31.
Di Grassi was the first to cross the finish line, but had to park his vehicle shortly after crossing the finish line with a technical defect. During the technical examination of his car after the race, it was found that his team, according to their own statement, had made impermissible modifications to the front wing during a repair, and di Grassi was then disqualified. Chandhok received a drive-through penalty which was converted into a 33 second time penalty for using too much energy.
D'Ambrosio won the race ahead of Buemi and Duval. It was the first podium places for D'Ambrosio and Duval, as well as for Dragon Racing . Dragon Racing was the first team in Formula E to achieve podium positions with both drivers in one race. The top 10 were completed by Piquet, Heidfeld, Sarrazin, Vergne, Bird, Liuzzi and Prost. Liuzzi scored his first points in Formula E. The two points for the fastest race lap went to Piquet.
Piquet took the lead in the drivers' championship ahead of Buemi and di Grassi. e.dams extended its lead in the team standings, Dragon Racing took second place ahead of ABT.
