The Berlin E-Prix 2020 will take place from August 5th to 13th on the Formula E race track Berlin (Tempelhof) in Berlin and is the sixth to eleventh races of the 2019/20 FIA Formula E championship . It is the sixth Berlin E-Prix.
report
background
After the Marrakech E-Prix , António Félix da Costa leads the drivers' standings with eleven points ahead of Mitch Evans and with 21 points ahead of Alexander Sims . In the team standings, DS Techeetah is eight points ahead of BMW i Andretti Motorsport and 32 points ahead of Jaguar Racing .
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , all races of the 2019/20 FIA Formula E Championship after the Marrakech E-Prix on February 29, 2020 have been canceled. As part of the Berlin E-Prix, all six remaining races of the season will be held. The racing series hopes that this will enable it to conclude the season without the threat of restrictions due to the entry restrictions that apply in many places worldwide.
Since the apron of the former Berlin-Tempelhof airport offers ideal conditions for largely flexible adjustments to the route, the six races will take place on three different route configurations. These were announced two weeks before the event.
At Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler , Daniel Abt has been replaced by René Rast . For his part, Abt replaces Ma Qinghua in the NIO 333 FE team . Pascal Wehrlein left Mahindra Racing , Alex Lynn will take over the cockpit . There is also a driver change at Dragon Racing : Brendon Hartley will be replaced by Sérgio Sette Câmara .
As with the Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance , the racing car for the 2020 Formula 1 World Championship , the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E team also changed its vehicles as a statement against racism and for more diversity after the protests following the death of George Floyd changed the basic color of the vehicle from silver to black. In addition, the word “End Racism” was attached to the Halo system .
With Sébastien Buemi (twice), Abt, Jérôme D'Ambrosio and Lucas di Grassi , four former winners will compete in this race.
Race day one
For the two opening races, a track configuration was chosen that largely corresponded to that of the Berlin E-Prix 2019 , but is used in the opposite direction. For this, some minor adjustments were made and the route was shortened by a total of 22 meters.
