The Diriyya E-Prix 2019 (officially: 2019 Saudi Diriyah E-Prix ) took place on November 22nd and 23rd on the Diriyya Formula E race track in Diriyya , a suburb of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia , and was the first as well as that second race of the FIA Formula E championship 2019/20 . It was the second Diriyya E-Prix and the season opener of the sixth season of the FIA Formula E Championship.

Mercedes made its debut at the Diriyya E-Prix in the FIA Formula E Championship, the team succeeded HWA Racelab . Even Porsche contested his first race in the championship.
James Calado , Nyck de Vries , Brendon Hartley and Nico Müller made their debut in the racing series. Neel Jani and Ma Qinghua returned to the FIA Formula E Championship as regular drivers. António Félix da Costa (Techeetah), Maximilian Günther (Andretti) and André Lotterer (Porsche) contested the first races for their new teams.
With Félix da Costa (once) a former winner competed in this race.
Race day one
training
In the first free practice session, Robin Frijns set the fastest time with a lap time of 1: 16.137 minutes, ahead of Müller and Sam Bird . The training was briefly interrupted after accidents involving Ma Qinghua and Brendon Hartley .
In the second free practice, Bird was the fastest time with a lap time of 1: 14.353 minutes ahead of Félix da Costa and Edoardo Mortara . The training started with a delay of five minutes because the route was changed in turn four . Here the asphalt broke open on the inside of the curve, which had also caused Hartley's accident in the first free practice.
Qualifying
Qualifying began at 11:00 a.m. and took place in four groups of six drivers each, each group had six minutes in which the drivers had a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 200 kW and then a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 250 kW were allowed to drive. Bird was fastest with a lap time of 1: 14.946 minutes and therefore received a point.
The six fastest drivers then drove in the first six positions in the individual time trial called Superpole . Alexander Sims secured pole position with a lap time of 1: 14.563 minutes and thus three points. The other positions were occupied by Stoffel Vandoorne , de Vries, Edoardo Mortara , Bird and Jérôme D'Ambrosio .
Calado und Müller was disqualified for violating the parc fermé regulations . Their teams had repaired the vehicles after accidents in qualifying.

The race lasted 45 minutes plus one lap. Each driver had to activate the attack mode twice; after activation, the vehicle produced a maximum of 235 kW instead of 200 kW for a period of four minutes. Müller did not take part in the race because his vehicle could not be repaired in time.
Bird won the race ahead of Lotterer and Vandoorne. It was Bird's ninth win in the FIA Formula E Championship. He became the first driver to win at least one race in each of the series' first six seasons. The remaining points were placed by Oliver Rowland , Robin Frijns , de Vries, Mortara, Sims, D'Ambrosio and Mitch Evans . The point for the fastest lap in the top ten also went to Evans.
Race day two
training
On the second day of the race there was only one free practice. Here Félix da Costa was fastest with a lap time of 1: 11.084 minutes ahead of Bird and Sims.
Qualifying
Qualifying started at 11:00 a.m. and took place in four groups of six drivers each. Each group had six minutes in which the pilots were allowed to drive a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 200 kW and then a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 250 kW. Félix da Costa was fastest with a lap time of 1: 11.418 minutes and therefore received one point.
The six fastest drivers then drove in the first six positions in the individual time trial called Superpole . Sims secured pole position with a lap time of 1: 11.476 minutes and thus three points. It was the first time in the history of the racing series that a driver has achieved three pole positions in a row. The other positions were occupied by Sébastien Buemi , Lucas di Grassi , Evans, D'Ambrosio and Félix da Costa.
Evans was disqualified in Superpole because his vehicle was below the minimum weight. He started from position six.

The race lasted 45 minutes plus one lap. Each driver had to reactivate the attack mode twice; after activation, the vehicle had a maximum of 235 kW instead of 200 kW for a period of four minutes.
Sims won the race ahead of di Grassi and Vandoorne. It was the first victory for Sims in the FIA Formula E Championship. The remaining points were placed by Mortara, Rowland, Daniel Abt , Calado, Vergne, Hartley and Félix da Costa. The additional point for the fastest lap in the top ten went to Félix da Costa.
