The Santiago E-Prix 2020 (officially: 2020 Antofagasta Minerals Santiago E-Prix ) took place on January 18th on the Santiago Formula E race track (Parque O'Higgins) in Santiago and was the third race of the FIA Formula E Championship 2019/20 . It was the third Santiago E-Prix and the second on this track.

After the Diriyya E-Prix , Alexander Sims led the drivers' standings with five points ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne and with nine points ahead of Sam Bird . In the team standings, Mercedes-Benz EQ was two points ahead of Virgin Racing and three points ahead of BMW i Andretti Motorsport .
With Jean-Éric Vergne and Bird (once each) two former winners competed in this race.

In the first free practice, Bird was fastest with a lap time of 1: 04.914 minutes ahead of António Félix da Costa and Edoardo Mortara .
In the second free practice, Oliver Rowland set the fastest time in 1: 04.799 minutes ahead of Felipe Massa and Mitch Evans . Practice was interrupted after Brendon Hartley lost a cooling fan on the track that his mechanics accidentally failed to remove from the vehicle. The training session was stopped a few minutes before the end after an accident by Ma Qinghua .
Qualifying
Qualifying began on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and took place in four groups of six drivers each, each group had six minutes in which the drivers had a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 200 kW and then a maximum of one timed lap with an output of 250 kW were allowed to drive. Ma was unable to take part because his vehicle was not operational after the accident in the second free practice session. Evans was fastest with a lap time of 1: 04.941 minutes and received one point. Di Grassi and Rowland did not qualify for the race after driving errors because they drove slower than the 110 percent time. Rowland was subsequently disqualified because repairs were carried out on his vehicle.
The six fastest drivers then drove in the first six positions in the individual time trial called Superpole . Evans secured pole position with a lap time of 1: 04.827 minutes and thus three more points. The other positions were occupied by Maximilian Günther , Pascal Wehrlein , Massa, Oliver Turvey and Sébastien Buemi .
Although they did not qualify, di Grassi, Ma and Rowland were given permission to compete in the race.

The race lasted 45 minutes plus one lap. Each driver had to activate the attack mode twice; after activation, the vehicle produced a maximum of 235 kW instead of 200 kW for a period of four minutes.
Günther won the race ahead of Félix da Costa and Evans. The other points were placed by Wehrlein, Nyck de Vries , Vandoorne, di Grassi, James Calado , Massa and Bird. The point for the fastest race lap in the top ten went to Bird.

- Remarks
- ↑ De Vries received a time penalty of five seconds because the specified minimum temperature of the battery cooling on his car was not maintained.
- ↑ Müller subsequently received a time penalty of ten seconds for causing a collision with Lotterer.
- ↑ Buemi subsequently received a drive-through penalty, which was converted into a time penalty of 30 seconds, because the power output from the battery system did not correspond to what was specified in the homologation of the so-called "throttle map".
- ↑ Abbot subsequently received a drive-through penalty which was converted into a time penalty of 30 seconds for causing a collision.
- ↑ Ma subsequently received a stop-and-go penalty of ten seconds, which was converted into a time penalty of 45 seconds for not using his attack mode.
