Red Bull (2005)
The Formula 1 scene also became aware of him through these achievements . Since Liuzzi was still part of the Red Bull junior squad , he was initially promoted to official test and reserve driver for the newly formed Formula 1 team Red Bull Racing . In this role he even made four races in the 2005 season , replacing regular driver Christian Klien . In his first Formula 1 race, the San Marino Grand Prix on April 24, 2005, Liuzzi achieved his first championship point with eighth place, but could not achieve any further points in the remaining three races.
Toro Rosso (2006-2007)
After Red Bull also took over the Minardi team at the end of 2005 to continue it as Scuderia Toro Rosso , Liuzzi switched to the new team as a regular driver in 2006 . At the US Grand Prix , with another eighth place, he reached the points for the only time that season. Although Liuzzi could not completely convince, but at least had his US team-mate Scott Speed under control, he also got a regular driver contract for 2007 . During the season, however, it became increasingly clear that Toro Rosso was dissatisfied with its drivers because they were not making good use of the car's capabilities. Corresponding statements by team co-owner Gerhard Berger and race director Franz Tost could be read everywhere in the specialist press. Speed was finally replaced during the season by the German Sebastian Vettel , Liuzzi stayed until the end of the season, but did not get a new contract. At the rainy and chaotic Chinese Grand Prix , Liuzzi again recommended himself with a sixth place and three championship points with other teams, but initially received no cockpit.
Force India (2008-2010)
In the winter before the 2008 season , he took part in the shoot-out of the newly formed Spyker successor team Force India and was presented in January by team boss Vijay Mallya as the official test and reserve driver, whom he initially remained in 2009 .
After regular driver Giancarlo Fisichella left the team before the last five races to replace the injured Felipe Massa in the traditional Ferrari team , Liuzzi was given the orphaned cockpit at Adrian Sutil's side . With this, he celebrated his comeback as a Grand Prix driver at the Italian Grand Prix after almost two years. In his very first race he started from seventh position, but retired. In the remaining four Grand Prix Liuzzi could not repeat this good qualifying performance and did not achieve any championship points this season.
For the 2010 season , Liuzzi was set as a regular driver alongside Sutil. He couldn't win the internal duel against Sutil and he was defeated by Sutil with 21 to 47 points. The Italian made it into the points five times and achieved his best result with a sixth place at the Korean Grand Prix . At the end of the season he finished 15th in the overall ranking. Although he had a contract with Force India for the 2011 season , his team terminated the contract in January and replaced Liuzzi with the previous test driver and DTM champion Paul di Resta .
HRT (2011)
Liuzzi finally got a contract with HRT for the 2011 season , where he was first teammate of Narain Karthikeyan and later of Daniel Ricciardo . At the first race weekend in Australia he failed because of the 107 percent rule . At the Canadian Grand Prix he achieved his best result of the season with a 13th place. In India it was replaced once by Karthikeyan. At the end of the season he finished 23rd in the championship. In 2012 Liuzzi lost his cockpit at HRT and stayed with the racing team as a test driver.

In the 2008/09 season Liuzzi competed in four races of the A1GP series and was able to achieve a pole position. He also competed in the Speedcar Series in 2008 .
