report

background

After the Indian Grand Prix , Sebastian Vettel led the drivers' standings with 134 points ahead of Jenson Button and 147 points ahead of Fernando Alonso . Red Bull-Renault led the constructors' championship with 153 points ahead of McLaren-Mercedes and with 270 points ahead of Ferrari . Vettel and Red Bull-Renault were already established as world champions ahead of time.

At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Pirelli provided the drivers with medium (white) and soft (yellow) tire compounds , as well as intermediates (light blue) and full wets (orange) for wet conditions .

Vitantonio Liuzzi returned to the cockpit at HRT . He again took over the vehicle with the number 23, which was driven by Daniel Ricciardo in India . Narain Karthikeyan , who drove the other HRT in India, handed the cockpit of the car with the number 22 back to Ricciardo.

The driver, who has won every Abu Dhabi Grand Prix so far, competed with Vettel.

training

In the first free practice, Button was the fastest driver ahead of Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton . Robert Wickens took over the Virgin from Jérôme D'Ambrosio in this training session and made his debut on a Formula 1 weekend. Moreover returned Romain Grosjean in this training in the Renault of Bruno Senna back in F1. His last participation in a Grand Prix weekend was on this track two years earlier, when he started the race. In addition, Jean-Éric Vergne received the Toro Rosso from Sébastien Buemi in the first free practice . In the second free practice, Hamilton drove the fastest lap ahead of his teammates Button and Alonso. In the third free practice, Hamilton again achieved the fastest time. Vettel and Webber followed in second and third place.

Qualifying

In the first section of qualifying, Hamilton set the fastest time. Rubens Barrichello did not set any time and therefore failed to qualify. He was subsequently admitted to the start. In addition, the HRT, Virgin and Lotus pilots failed to make the leap to the next section. In this, Hamilton kept the lead. The Sauber , Toro Rosso and Renault drivers and Pastor Maldonado were eliminated. In the final segment, Vettel achieved the fastest lap and thus the pole position ahead of Hamilton and Button.

run

Hamilton won the race ahead of Alonso and Button.

Vettel, who started from pole position, dropped out on the first lap because he suffered tire damage in the first corners. Hamilton then led the race consistently after adjusting for pit stops.

Webber achieved the fastest lap for the sixth time, earning the DHL Fastest Lap Award early .
