The Ferrari 150 ° Italia was the 44th Formula 1 racing cars the Scuderia Ferrari . With this, the team contested the 2011 Formula 1 World Championship .

designation

The details of the model names changed several times. Before the start of the season, the designation Ferrari F150 was planned. After the US car manufacturer Ford , which has had a model called the Ford F150 in its range of commercial vehicles since the 1950s , took legal action against the use of the name, Ferrari changed the name to F150th Italia on February 10, 2011 . On March 5, the racing car was renamed again and has since been called Ferrari 150 ° Italia.

The term 150 ° Italia is a tribute to the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy . For this reason, the flag of Italy was painted on the back of the rear wing . Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo expected "plenty of luck" as a result.

Development and technology

The car was designed by Aldo Costa and Nikolas Tombazis . The tail fin known from the predecessor Ferrari F10 , which was necessary for the F-slot , was no longer used due to the ban on the F-slot . Instead, the rear wing was equipped with DRS . In addition, the nose was higher than on the predecessor to get more air under the vehicle.

Luca Marmorini and Gilles Simon developed the Type 056 V8 engine . Unlike in the previous year, Ferrari relied on KERS again in the 2011 season .

driver

As in previous years, the 150 ° Italia was driven by Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa .
