The Ferrari 735S Spider , also known as the Ferrari 735 Sport , was a racing car that Ferrari built in 1953 and which Scuderia used in sports car races that same year .

technology

The Ferrari 735S followed the four-cylinder strategy that had already been started with the Ferrari 625TF in Maranello . All three Spiders got the same body from Ferrari in 1953, which - a rare exception at the time - Ferrari developed itself. The development time of the project was very short after Aurelio Lampredi himself had submitted the design for the vehicle. The bodies were manufactured at least partially at the Carrozzeria Autodromo Modena . The in- line four-cylinder was improved and now made 225 hp at 2941 cm³. The engine had significantly better torque than the four-cylinder unit in the 625TF.

Races

The 735 Sport was driven for the first time on June 29, 1953 at the Monza Grand Prix , a national sports car at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza . At the wheel was Alberto Ascari , who qualified the car for pole position . In the first race - the competition was held in two races - he had an accident and was unable to take part in the second.

In the Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti in the same year reached Umberto Maglioli third overall; and after another sports car race in Italy, a car was sold to Frenchman François Picard , who contested the Tour de France for automobiles in 1954 and achieved the only race victory for the 735 Sport at the end of the year with his success at the Gran Premio de Penya Rhin .
