The Ferrari 312T5 , also Ferrari 312 T5 , was a Formula 1 racing car that Scuderia Ferrari used in the 1980 Formula 1 World Championship .
Racing history
The 312T5 was the successor to the 312T4 . Both drivers could not build on the successes of the 1979 season, in which Jody Scheckter driver world champion , Gilles Villeneuve vice world champion and the Scuderia were superior constructors world champions. The wide and flat 12-cylinder - V engine with 180 ° bank angle (the cylinders were a Pleuelbreite offset from) could be far less well in the body integrated as the 312T4. The car got a new design, the side pods were angular.
The season was a disaster for Ferrari. Jody Scheckter achieved only two world championship points, the lowest number of points that a Formula 1 world champion achieved in the season after the title. With the additional six points from Gilles Villeneuve, Ferrari finished tenth in the constructors' championship.
When it became foreseeable that the 312T5 was a mistake, Ferrari concentrated on building the first Ferrari Formula 1 racing car with a turbo engine . The 126CK replaced the 312T5 before the end of the 1980 season. In an as 312T6 designated version is however, not a development from the 312T5, but an earlier development from 1977, when Ferrari similar to the Type C / D hill-climbing car of the Auto Union the end of the 1930s with Experimented with double tires on the rear axle, but did not use them in a race.
A 312T5 is on display in the Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile in Turin .
