Presentation and name
The Ferrari F10 was unveiled to the public on January 28, 2010. On the same day, Ferrari factory driver Felipe Massa drove the first kilometers on the in-house race track in Fiorano . Due to bad weather, the first test drives had to be postponed until the next day, when Massa was again behind the wheel.
The type designation is made up of an F for Ferrari and the number 10 for 2010.
Development and technology
The F10 was designed by Nikolas Tombazis , who developed the car under the technical direction of Aldo Costa and based on the technical regulations that have existed since 2009. The most important change to the F60 from the previous year was the waiver of the KERS . The engine was again the Ferrari type 056 2.4 liter V8 unit . The gearbox has become narrower than its predecessor. Including the driver, supplies and water, the car weighs 620 kg.
Season course
After extensive test drives in February 2010, the new works driver Fernando Alonso won the first world championship run of the season in Bahrain with the F10 . Felipe Massa secured a one-two for Scuderia with second place. After the races in Australia , Malaysia and China , the Scuderia was in second place in the constructors' championship with the F10.
In Australia, Alonso was involved in a collision at the start and was fourth behind team-mate Massa. In Malaysia, Alonso retired with engine failure and Massa finished seventh. In the rain race in China, Alonso was fourth again after a drive-through penalty for jump starts, while Felipe Massa was ninth.
After the sixth race of the season, the Monaco Grand Prix , Alonso placed third in the championship standings, three points behind the leader, Mark Webber . Felipe Massa was fifth, 17 points behind. After the ninth round of the season, the European Grand Prix , Scuderia was in third place with the F10 in the constructors' championship.
The Scuderia celebrated the second win of the season with the F10 at the German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring, where Fernando Alonso won ahead of Felipe Massa. Alonso scored three more victories in the drivers' championship. He won the Ferrari Home Grand Prix in Italy , the Singapore Grand Prix and the first ever Korean Grand Prix . At the end of the season he finished second in the drivers' world championship with the F10. Felipe Massa was sixth overall and the Scuderia reached third place overall in the Constructors' Cup.
