Ferrari 212 MM
The Ferrari 212 MM was a racing car from 1951.
Background and technology
The 212 MM had the chassis number 0070M, was a one-off and the only Ferrari 212 that received the designation "MM" for the Mille Miglia . The 212 was the successor to the 195 types . By increasing the drilling size again , the displacement of the SOHC - V12 engine increased to 2562 cm³. This increased the power to 162 hp. The wheelbase and chassis remained unchanged from the 195 Sport . The body came from Vignale .
Racing history
The 212 MM was rarely used in races, only twice as a works car . At the Giro di Sicilia in 1951 , Piero Taruffi was second behind Gianni Marzotto , who drove a Ferrari 212 Export . 14 days later Luigi Villoresi won the 2-hour race in Monza with the car . Then the racing car was handed over to Franco Cornacchia , who damaged the body considerably during a training drive. After the accident, the body was repaired at Vignale in 1952 and Cornacchia took the car to the start in the 1952 Le Mans 24-hour race , but was canceled. In 1955 he sold the car, which was then owned by some Italian collectors. In 1995 the chassis, which in the meantime had significant defects, was acquired by an American and returned to its original condition through a long restoration.
