The Ferrari 625F1 was a Formula 1 racing car , built and used by Scuderia Ferrari .
Development history
For the 1952 season, the framework conditions, and especially the engine regulations, according to which the world championship races were held, changed significantly. Ferrari reacted quickly and had Aurelio Lampredi develop new 4-cylinder engines. The 2-liter variant of these units was used in the new Ferrari 500 .
For the 1954 season there was another change in the engine formula, and Scuderia Ferrari responded with the 625F1. The Ferrari 625F1 were converted Ferrari 500s with a 2.5-liter version of the four-cylinder engine . This engine was originally developed for the Ferrari 553 Squalo , which was used in parallel with the 625, and made 245 hp in its final stage. The vehicle still had a simple tubular frame.
Racing history
The 625F1 made its debut at the 1954 Argentine Grand Prix . The works drivers Giuseppe Farina , José Froilán González and Maurice Trintignant only had to admit defeat to local hero Juan Manuel Fangio and came in second to fourth behind him.
Gonzales won his second Grand Prix that same year with a 625. He won the Great Britain Grand Prix at Silverstone . Nevertheless, the Tipo 625 was not really a winning car. The car was inferior to the competition, led by Mercedes-Benz . Once again, the Scuderia scored a Tipo 625 victory when Maurice Trintignant surprisingly won the Monaco Grand Prix in 1955 .
