The Ferrari 125 is an automobile manufactured by Ferrari in different versions between 1947 and 1948 to 1950 . The name goes back to the rounded cubic capacity of a single cylinder in the respective engine (here a V12).

The 125 was the first automobile to be manufactured by Ferrari under its own name.

125 S / 125 C (1947)

Ferrari brought out the 125 S in early 1947. The car had the 1.5 liter V12 engine designed by the former Alfa Romeo engineer Gioacchino Colombo , officially 87 kW (118 hp), with a bank angle of 60 °, one overhead camshaft per cylinder bank and single ignition. The wheelbase was 2420 mm, double wishbones and a transverse leaf spring were used on the front axle, and a rigid axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs at the rear .

In the same year the Ferrari 125 C was also built. It had a different body shape, but roughly the same mechanics. Two copies were built, one with a wide Spider body from Carrozzeria Touring , the other with free-standing fenders and a narrow racing body. Both cars no longer exist today, but Ferrari built replicas in the late 1980s.

The cars took part in some races in 1947 without any particular success. To increase performance, the factory then increased the displacement and named the successor model Ferrari 159 .

125 GP (1948/49)

In September 1948, the 1.5-liter engine from the 125 C was used again in a modified form. It drove the Monoposto 125 GP, which took part in the forerunner races of the Formula 1 from 1950 . With a Roots compressor , it developed 169 kW (230 PS). The single-seater with side member frame and a wheelbase of 2160 mm had a pendulum axle at the rear with torsion bars or transverse leaf springs.

125 F1 (1949/50)

The 125 F1 was a modified version of the 125 GP with two overhead camshafts per cylinder bank and a longer wheelbase of 2380 mm, presented before the Italian Grand Prix in Monza in September 1949. In this form, the engine developed 191 kW (260 hp).
