The Ferrari 328 is a vehicle model from the Italian car manufacturer Ferrari , it is available with the designation Ferrari 328 GTB (Gran Turismo Berlinetta) as a coupé and Ferrari 328 GTS (Gran Turismo Spider) as a convertible.

The 328 GTS had evidently been developed from the first two-seater Ferraris with a transverse engine - the 206 and 246 Dino from the late 1960s. The soft, curvy lines of the Dino had since given way to the more sharply contoured design of the 328.

The V8 mid-engine of the 328 now had 3.2 liters displacement, 199 kW (270 hp) and a torque of 304 Nm. It was the last transversely installed V8 in a Ferrari.

Although the interior of the 328 was clearly based on that of the Ferrari 308 , which had appeared ten years earlier , there were some changes such as a more clearly designed dashboard.

history

Ten years after Ferrari launched its best-selling model, the 308 GTB , it finally got a new engine and had a noticeably redesigned exterior to freshen up the design.

The most obvious change was in the bumper area; the sharp front profile of the 308 had given way in favor of a flatter, rounder section, the rear was redesigned in a similar way. This made the car look a bit more beefy than the 308, but also more uniform overall. The 328 was just under an inch longer than its predecessor.

The 328 GTB and 328 GTS had the same technical structure as the 308 GTB and GTS Quattrovalvole, but their V8 engine had a displacement of 3185 cc and 199 kW (270 hp). The larger displacement was achieved through a 2 mm wider bore and a 2.6 mm longer stroke. Only this larger displacement increased the output (to 199 kW), otherwise there were no differences. The gear ratio was also the same, so the car reached a top speed of around 263 km / h. The front and rear bumpers were painted in body color. There were also small changes to the dashboard, the moldings and the interior.

With a production rate of 2500 pieces per year, the 328 GTB and GTS were not cheap (in 1985 the list price of the GTB was 112,000 DM), but they were quite popular. The majority of the orders were for the open version. They were the last Ferraris with a transversely installed V8, followed in 1989 by the 348 tb with a longitudinally installed eight-cylinder engine.

As with the 308 GTB and 308 GTS, the GTB Turbo and GTS Turbo (254 hp, top speed 253 km / h) produced for the Italian market were also available . Due to the Italian tax legislation, according to which the expenses for vehicles with a displacement of over two liters could not be deducted from the tax, these vehicles were equipped with a V8 engine with a displacement of only 1,990 cm³ from 1986.
