The Ferrari California is a car model from the Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari . The vehicle, designed as a coupé-convertible with an aluminum folding roof, is based on the name and design elements of the Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California built between 1957 and 1962 . Like the 250, the California was designed by Pininfarina . The Ferrari California is not powered by a V12, but by a V8 engine.
history
The Ferrari California was presented on October 2, 2008 at the Paris Motor Show . It was presented in motion for the first time three days later by Michael Schumacher at the Ferrari Racing Days 2008 at the Nürburgring . Delivery of the Ferrari, which was produced in a new assembly hall in Maranello, began in January 2009.
Since model year 2012, the California officially has the designation California 30 . The number 30 stands for 30 HP (22 kW) more and 30 kg less. With this facelift, the V8 of the California 30 now delivers 360 kW (490 hp) and 505 Nm. The top speed was increased to 312 km / h and the acceleration was reduced from 0 to 100 km / h to 3.8 s. A handling special package is also available for the California 30 . These include, among other things, new electronically controlled dampers, a more tightly tuned suspension and a more directly geared steering. Another new special equipment feature is the so-called HELE system, which stands for “High Emotion Low Emission” and reduces the vehicle's CO 2 emissions from 299 g / km to 270 g / km.
In 2012, according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, 143 Ferrari California were newly registered in Germany, 86 of them by commercial owners.
A comprehensive facelift was presented at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The model now called California T has, in addition to optical changes, a V8 3.9-liter turbo engine with 412 kW (560 hp) and 755 Nm. It is Ferrari's first supercharged sports car since production of the F40 ended in 1992.
design
The design is based on the other Ferrari models and has parallels to both the Ferrari F430 and the 612 Scaglietti . For example, the double exhaust pipes arranged diagonally one above the other (next to each other on the California T) are reminiscent of the Lexus IS-F . In addition to the convertible top, large parts of the body are made of aluminum to reduce weight and fuel consumption.
technology
The direct-injection engine of the 2 + 2-seater is a 4.3-liter V8 with flat-plane crankshaft , which is designed as a front engine , but is referred to as a front mid-engine due to the engine located behind and not above the front axle. It delivers 338 kW (460 hp) at 7750 min -1 , accelerates the car as standard via dual-clutch transmission with seven stages and the traction control F1-Trac 0 km to 100 / h in 3.9 seconds and provides a top speed of 310 km / H. The maximum torque is at 485 Newton meters at 5000 min -1 . For the first time in a Ferrari, a V8 engine is installed in the front - this type of drive was previously reserved for twelve-cylinders. For better weight distribution, however, the transmission continues to be mounted on the newly developed multi-link rear axle using the transaxle design. Consumption should amount to 13.1 liters of premium gasoline per 100 kilometers with CO 2 emissions of 306 g / km.
With the roof open, the trunk volume is 240 liters, which increases to 340 liters as soon as the Webasto folding roof is closed within 15 seconds. Another unique feature of a Ferrari is the direct connection between the rear seats and the trunk.
Facilities include the California standard Brembo - carbon ceramic brakes and also in the Ferrari 599 GTB used F1-Trac system for better traction. Adaptive, so-called Magna Ride shock absorbers are also available for an extra charge. In the interior, both the seats and fittings as well as the infotainment system should differ from the other Ferrari series.
Performance
The Ferrari California (2008 model; 338 kilowatts) is on par with a Ferrari F430 with its performance .
The car magazine Sport Auto measured a lap time of 7:56 minutes on the Nordschleife . Significantly sportier vehicles such as the Jaguar XKR-S (8:03 min) or the Maserati MC Stradale (8:14 min) are therefore significantly slower.
