The Laboulbeniomycetes are a class of ashlar mushrooms . They are predominantly parasites on insects.

features

A mycelium is not formed except for the Pyxidiophorales. The thallus is translucent ( hyaline ) to dark and has a basal haustorium .

The fruiting bodies are transparent, egg-shaped, thin-walled perithecia , which are often surrounded by appendages. There are few basal asci . These are not fissitunicat, club-shaped, thin-walled and mature sequentially. They usually form four spores. The ascospores are two-celled, hyaline and elongated. One end is remodeled as an attachment point to the host.

The anamorphs are hyphomycetes .

Systematics

The position of the class in the Pezizomycotina subdivision is not guaranteed. No representatives of the class were included in the Spatafora investigation. The class is currently assigned to the Pezizomycotina and consists of two orders:

The two orders have a very different fruiting body morphology. However, the ascospores with their adhesive apparatus are very similar. The relationship between the two orders was confirmed by Blackwell in 1994 by comparing DNA sequences.
