The Ferrari F2012 was the 45th Formula 1 race car of the Scuderia Ferrari . It was used in the 2012 Formula 1 season and was powered by a Ferrari engine. The vehicle was unveiled on February 3, 2012 on the racing team's official website.
Technology and development
The Ferrari F2012 was the successor to the Ferrari 150 ° Italia . Only a few parts of the previous model were taken over and mostly new approaches were pursued. A striking feature of the vehicle was the nose, which has a step shape. The team described the new front as "not exactly aesthetic". The front suspension was described by Ferrari as an innovation. The only team Ferrari sat in the front suspension on tension rods, while all other push rods used. A new concept has also been introduced for the side pods. The F2012 was the first Ferrari to be created under the direction of new technical director Pat Fry . The vehicle's chief designer was again Nikolas Tombazis .
The transmission, the 2.4-liter V8 type 056 , and the KERS were Ferrari's own designs. The fuel and lubricants were supplied by Shell , the tires by Pirelli .
Painting and sponsorship
The Ferrari F2012 was painted in the brand-typical red. The main sponsor Philip Morris International with its Marlboro brand was not allowed to advertise on the vehicle due to the ban on tobacco advertising. Major sponsors visible on the car were Acer , AMD , Fiat , Kaspersky , Santander and Shell.
driver
Ferrari stuck to the driver duo Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa for the 2012 season .
2012 season
At the start of the season it became clear that the Ferrari F2012 was not competitive, especially on a fast lap. The race speed in the first race was more competitive. The lack of traction of the vehicle and the resulting lower top speed were named as a problem after the first race. Massa in particular complained about the "strange behavior" of his vehicle, whereupon the team decided to replace its chassis, which was numbered 293, with chassis 294 after the first race. His vehicle was completely rebuilt.
