The 2012 Indian Grand Prix took place on October 28th at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida and was the 17th race of the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship .

After the Korean Grand Prix , Sebastian Vettel led the drivers' standings with 6 points ahead of Fernando Alonso and 48 points over Kimi Räikkönen . In the constructors' championship, Red Bull-Renault led by 77 points over Ferrari and 83 points over McLaren-Mercedes .

At the Indian Grand Prix, Pirelli provided the drivers with the tire compounds P Zero Hard (silver) and P Zero Soft (yellow) as well as Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue) for wet conditions .

With Vettel, the only former winner entered this Grand Prix.

Gerd Ennser (DEU), Alan Jones (AUS) and Steve Stringwell (GBR) acted as race stewards .

training

In the first free practice, Vettel set the fastest time ahead of Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso . In this practice Esteban Gutiérrez was first used on a Grand Prix weekend. Gutiérrez represented his compatriot Sergio Pérez at Sauber , who skipped the training for health reasons. In addition, Valtteri Bottas took over the Williams from Bruno Senna and Giedo van der Garde took over the Caterham from Heikki Kovalainen . In the second free practice, Vettel stayed in front. Mark Webber took second place ahead of Alonso.

Vettel was also first in the third free practice session. This time he was followed by Button and Webber.

Qualifying

Pastor Maldonado set the fastest lap in the first section of qualifying . The Marussia , HRT and Caterham pilots as well as Jean-Éric Vergne were eliminated. In the second segment, Vettel was fastest. The Force India pilots as well as Kamui Kobayashi , Daniel Ricciardo , Michael Schumacher , Senna and Romain Grosjean were eliminated. In the final section, Vettel stayed ahead and achieved pole position in front of Webber and Lewis Hamilton .

Vettel won the race ahead of Alonso and Webber.

Vettel maintained the lead at the start and kept it until the end of the race. Webber was initially in second place until he fell behind Alonso, who had made up two positions in the start phase, with KERS problems.
