The Williams FW34 was the 32th Formula 1 - racing cars of Williams . It was used in the 2012 Formula 1 season , engine supplier was Renault . It was presented to the public on February 7, 2012 at the Circuito de Jerez .
Technology and development
The Williams FW34 is the successor to the Williams FW33 . What is striking about the vehicle is the stepped nose. In addition, the stern was built very narrow. With the Williams FW34, a Williams vehicle with a Renault engine drove for the first time since 1997 . The previous model used a Cosworth engine. The Williams FW34 was developed under the direction of technical director Mike Coughlan and his predecessor Sam Michael , who left Williams for McLaren during the 2011 season. Jason Somerville was the chief aerodynamicist for the car .
The engine was a 2.4 liter V8 type RS27-2012 and had 750 hp and came from Renault . As with all other teams, the tires were provided by Pirelli .
Painting and sponsorship
The Williams FW34 is painted dark blue. There are also white color accents on the vehicle. Major sponsors on the vehicle are Embratel , Gilette , PDVSA , Randstad and Renault.
driver
Pastor Maldonado
The Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado came in 2011 to Williams, where at that time Rubens Barrichello was the # 1. This year Maldonado got a world championship point. In 2012 he was given Brunno Senna, whom he narrowly defeated in the drivers' championship. In the next season, Maldonado publicly criticized the team and left Williams in late 2013. This affirmed his reputation as an enfant terrible.
Bruno Senna
Due to his legendary uncle Ayrton Senna , the expectations of Bruno Senna were high. Senna had previously driven for Renault and Hispania Racing . Despite relatively constant performances compared to Maldonado, there were no highlights and Senna could not establish himself in Formula 1.
Results
Williams was able to improve significantly with the new car. In 2012 , they finished 8th in the Formula One constructors' championship , ahead of the Hispania Racing , Marussia , Caterham and Torro Rosso racing teams . After rank 9 in the previous year, this was definitely a success. The team collected 76 points in 2012, significantly more than in the previous year. Pastor Maldonado was instrumental in this and brought the Williams team their first GP victory in Spain since 2004.
