The Lotus E20 was the Formula 1 - racing cars of the Lotus F1 Team for the Formula 1 2012 season . It was the twentieth racing car to be built in the Enstone factory ; from this the name E20 was derived. The Lotus E20 was also the team's third racing car since it was owned by Genii Capital . Renault supplied the vehicle's engine . The Lotus E20 was featured on the team website on February 5, 2012.

Technology and development

The Lotus E20 was the successor to the Renault R31 . A noticeable feature of the car were bumps in the area of the front suspension. The Lotus E20 was developed under the direction of Technical Director James Allison .

The transmission was a Lotus in-house design, the fuel and lubricants were supplied by Total . The engine was 750 hp (552 kW) and came from Renault . The KERS developed Renault Sport F1 and Magneti Marelli . As with all other teams, Pirelli provided the tires .

Painting and sponsorship

The Lotus E20 was - like all vehicles supported by Lotus Cars factory in 2012 - painted in black and gold. This paintwork was reminiscent of that of the John Player Team Lotus , which won the Formula 1 World Championship with Mario Andretti in the 1970s . In addition to logos of the technical partners Lotus, Pirelli, Renault and Total, several companies advertised on the vehicle: The owner of the team, Genii Capital , was placed on the side pods. The Unilever Group was presented as a further sponsor for the presentation. He advertised on the Lotus E20 with his brands Clear and Rexona . The logos of Japan Rags , Trina Solar and TW Steel were also featured on the vehicle.

driver

In 2012 the team started with two new drivers. Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean returned to Formula 1. Both had last been active in Formula 1 in 2009 . Räikkönen, who was Formula 1 World Champion in 2007 , had meanwhile taken part in the World Rally Championship , Grosjean had competed in several racing series over the two years and was champion of the Auto GP in 2010 and overall winner of the GP2 Asia and GP2 series in 2011 .

At the Italian Grand Prix , Jérôme D'Ambrosio replaced Romain Grosjean, who had been banned from this race.
