The Sauber C31 is the 20th Formula 1 - racing car of Sauber . It will be used in the 2012 Formula 1 season , the engine supplier is Ferrari . It was presented to the public on February 6, 2012 at the Circuito de Jerez .
As with all Sauber vehicles, the name of the car is composed of the C for Christiane, Peter Sauber's wife , followed by a consecutive number.
Technology and development
The Sauber C31 is the successor to the Sauber C30 . What is striking about the vehicle is the stepped nose, which can be traced back to changes in the regulations for the 2012 Formula 1 season. The Sauber C31 was developed under the direction of technical director James Key . However, Key left the team shortly before the presentation. Chief designer Matt Morris explained the objective in the construction of the vehicle was to "eliminate the weaknesses of the predecessor while maintaining its strengths." In particular, the performance of the vehicle in qualifying was to be improved while the racing performance was to remain the same. The rear area was described as revolutionary. While compression struts are used in the front suspension, the rear suspension consists of tension struts.
The gearbox, the engine, a 2.4 liter V8 engine , and the KERS are from Ferrari . As with all other teams, the tires are provided by Pirelli .
Painting and sponsorship
The Sauber C31 is painted white and black. The front and rear areas are black, the center of the vehicle white. Larger areas of the vehicle are without sponsor stickers. The sponsors Claro and œrlikon provide red color accents, and the blue NEC and Telmex .
From the Spanish Grand Prix onwards , the English football club Chelsea FC will advertise their club logo on the engine cover. In the previous races, the statements Out of the Blue and True Blue announced this partnership.
driver
The team held on to the driver duo of Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Pérez .
