The Marussia MR01 was the third Formula 1 - racing cars of with Russian driving license Team Marussia F1 and the first to the chassis name Marussia. It was presented on March 5, 2012 at Silverstone and used in the 2012 Formula 1 season ; The engine supplier was Cosworth .

Development and technology

Like its predecessor, the Virgin MVR-02 , the Marussia MR01 was developed under the direction of Pat Symonds , Marussia's technical advisor. The Marussia MR01 is powered by a V8 Cosworth CA2012 engine with a displacement of 2400 cm 3 . The previous engine CA2011 was mixed with a specific power output of over 300  bhp , the equivalent of about 537 kW (730 hp) at 18,000 min -1 indicated. Like all other seasonal vehicles, it is fitted with Pirelli tires. In the 2012 Formula 1 season, along with the HRT F112, it was the only vehicle that started without a Kinetic Energy Recovery System ( KERS ). BP Castrol supplied the fuel and lubricants .

The vehicle should be presented on March 1st, 2012 in Barcelona . However, since the MR01 had only passed 17 of the 18 mandatory crash tests at this point in time, the vehicle was only presented on March 5, 2012 in Silverstone . At this point the official test drives for the Formula 1 season had already been completed. Therefore, the car was only allowed to be moved within the framework of two PR shooting days.

Painting and sponsorship

The Marussia MR01 is mainly painted red and black. There are also small white and blue stripes. The namesake Marussia Motors advertises on the engine cover . In addition, CSC, QNET and Virgin advertise .

driver

The cockpits in the 2012 season were occupied by the German Timo Glock and the French Charles Pic , who made his Formula 1 debut with this vehicle.
