Predecessor companies

THS

THS GmbH was based in the former Nordstern colliery in Gelsenkirchen. The company was founded in 1920 as a settlement bank under the name Treuhandstelle für Bergmannswohnstätten in the Rhenish-Westphalian Coal District GmbH in Essen. The tasks soon went beyond lending and quickly focused on the provision of inexpensive and high-quality apartments for the mine workforce in the Ruhr area. Through the acquisition of several company housing companies as well as the acquisition and establishment of service companies from the 1970s, the long-established company developed over the decades into a housing service group with 70,000 apartments.

Evonik real estate

The roots of Evonik Immobilien GmbH can be found primarily in the activities of the mining company Ruhrkohle AG and its predecessor companies, as well as the Eschweiler mining association . With the beginning of industrialization in the 19th century, extensive colliery settlements emerged in the coal fields in the Ruhr area and in the Aachen area, many of which became the property of Ruhrkohle, which was founded in 1969. In the 1990s, the management of the real estate portfolio finally developed into a separate business activity. Evonik Immobilien with 60,000 apartments was created in 2007 from RAG Immobilien.

Self-image

Shareholders and management see the private housing company on a path geared towards sustainability "in the field of tension between return and customer requirements". Thanks to the IG BCE's stake in the company and the high proportion of apartments with mining links, a high level of tenant protection is propagated as “trust capital”. Vivawest is the main shareholder of the GSB Society for Securing Miner's Homes .

Foundation, endowment

Like other housing companies after major restructuring, Vivawest has set up a non-profit subsidiary. The Vivawest Foundation promotes neighborhood projects, in particular by setting up and maintaining common rooms in their settlements and in districts with Vivawest housing stocks.
