The Marussia MR02 is the fourth Formula 1 - racing car of Marussia F1 teams . The vehicle will be used in the 2013 Formula 1 season . It was presented on February 5, 2013 at the Circuito de Jerez .
Technology and development
The MR02 is the successor to the MR01 and was again developed under the direction of Pat Symonds . It is the first racing car from Marussia that was tested in a wind tunnel before its presentation and was therefore not exclusively based on CFD . The McLaren wind tunnel was used for this. The racing car is powered by a Cosworth V8 engine with a displacement of 2.4 liters. In addition, unlike the MR01, the MR02 has a KERS developed by Williams . The tires come from the standard supplier Pirelli .
Like all Formula 1 vehicles of the 2013 season, the MR02 is equipped with KERS and DRS .
The vehicle is essentially a further development of the MR01 used in 2012, the main focus of the team was on improving the cooling and airflow in the rear of the vehicle. For this purpose, the shape of the side pods was changed and the exhaust was designed so that the Coandă effect is better used. The suspension was completely taken over from the MR01.
It is noticeable that the MR02 is the only vehicle of the 2013 season to have a constant slope from the edge of the cockpit to the front, which makes the use of the newly introduced vanity panel superfluous. The predecessor model MR01 already had such a deep front section.
Painting and sponsorship
The racing car is mainly painted in black and red. It also has white stripes and accents. Sponsor stickers come from QNET , LDC, and the Sage Group .
driver
The MR02 is driven by two Formula 1 entrants: Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton . Bianchi changes from Formula Renault 3.5 and Chilton from the GP2 series into Formula 1.
Originally, GP2 runner-up Luiz Razia was to receive the second cockpit at Marussia . However, he was replaced by Bianchi during pre-season testing.
