The Force India VJM06 is the sixth Formula 1 - racing cars of the Indian team Force India . It will be used in the 2013 Formula 1 season ; the engine supplier is Mercedes . It was unveiled to the public on February 1, 2013 at the Silverstone Circuit .
Technology and development
The VJM06 is the successor to the VJM05 . The car hides the "nose hump" through the newly introduced vanity panel . The car developed by Andrew Green is powered by a Mercedes V8 engine with a displacement of 2.4 liters, which develops an output of around 550 kW (≈750 hp). The KERS also comes from Mercedes, the transmission from McLaren . The rims come from BBS , the braking system from AP Racing and the tires are provided by a standard supplier Pirelli .
Like all Formula 1 vehicles of the 2013 season, the VJM06 is equipped with KERS and DRS .
The VJM06 is a further development of the previous year's model. Particular emphasis was placed on increasing the predictability of driving behavior. Changes were mainly made in the mechanical area, the wheel suspensions were completely redeveloped. The rear has been redesigned to allow better airflow. In addition, the exhaust has been optimized to make better use of the Coandă effect . The air inlets above the cockpit and on the side pods have also been revised.
A completely new wheel nut system is used on the VJM06, which should enable faster tire changes. At the Malaysian Grand Prix , problems with the system occurred on both vehicles during the race; the thread that had to be removed together with the wheel nut got stuck on the wheel hub so that the nut could not be tightened again. Since the problem did not occur during test drives or at the Australian Grand Prix and only the wheel nuts on the left side of the vehicle were affected, Force India assumes that the cause is a combination of various factors, including the high temperatures in Malaysia and the heavier load on the wheel nuts on the left side of the vehicle.
Painting and sponsorship
The Force India VJM06 is painted in the colors of the Indian flag orange, white and green. The title sponsor and shareholder Sahara India Pariwar is represented as a sponsor on the side pods. Other major sponsors of the team are Kingfisher Airlines and the spirits manufacturers Vladivar Vodka and Whyte and Mackay , companies that are close to the team boss Vijay Mallya .
driver
Paul di Resta stays with Force India. Adrian Sutil is returning to the Force India cockpit after a year, replacing Nico Hülkenberg, who has migrated to Sauber .
