Whyte and Mackay
Whyte & Mackay (also: Whyte & Mackay, W & M; English Whyte and Mackay Ltd ) is a Scottish company that trades in spirits , mainly whiskey from the Whyte & Mackay brand . Founded in Glasgow in 1844 , it belonged to the Indian United Breweries Group from 2007 to 2014 , which is owned by Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya . On October 31, 2014 Whyte and Mackay was sold to the Philippine Emperador Inc. for antitrust reasons .
From 2008 to 2011 Whyte & Mackay was the competition sponsor of the Premier League Darts . The current sponsorship includes the Formula 1 team Force India , the Scottish football club Hibernian Edinburgh and the Indian cricket team Royal Challengers Bangalore (as of 2013). The automobile racing driver Paul di Resta is the official "Global Ambassador" of the Whyte & Mackay brand .
The company has acquired five other whiskey distilleries in its history : Dalmore , Fettercairn , Invergordon , Isle of Jura and Tamnavulin . The best known representative of the company is the master blender Richard Paterson , known as The Nose .
