Richard Paterson
Richard "The Nose" Paterson is a master whiskey blender who works for Whyte and Mackay ( Glasgow / Scotland ).
Life
Richard Paterson is one of the most famous master whiskey blenders in the world. He became a master blender at the age of only 26. He is said to have received his first glass of whiskey at the age of 8 from his father, a whiskey blender and trader. He began his career in 1966 as a production assistant at A. Giles & Company Whiskey Blenders & Brokers. There he learned the art of blending before moving to his current employer Whyte and Mackay , one of the leading producers and sellers of Scotch whiskeys.
In 2007, cases of intact whiskey were found in McMurdo Sound , which were stored in Ernest Shackleton's expedition hut in 1907, a hundred years earlier, during the Antarctic expedition. The whiskey came from the Mackinlay distillery, whose successors belong to Whyte and Mackay. Eleven bottles were recovered, three of which were flown to Scotland on the private jet Vijay Mallyas , the owner of Whyte and Mackay at the time, to be examined there further. Richard Paterson was tasked with mimicking the blend as closely as possible. This succeeded and the whiskey was successfully marketed as "Mackinlay's Shackleton Whiskey".
Paterson is the author of Goodness Nose: The Passionate Revelations of a Scotch Whiskey Master Blender. He is arguably the only master blender who has ever appeared in a manga .
