history

The Indian Premier League is a cricket tournament organized by the Indian Cricket Association and supported by the International Cricket Council . In the run-up to the first season, the Indian association had presented a list of eight cities in which franchises were to be created. On February 20, 2008, an auction was held, as a result of which Vijay Mallya secured the rights to the team in Bangalore for 111.6 million US dollars . The two Bollywood actresses Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone as well as the South Indian film stars Ramya and Upendra are the team's brand ambassadors.

2008 IPL season

The team won only four games this season and ended the year in penultimate place in the table. Financially, a loss of around USD 8.5 million was made. Only one batsman came on more than 300 runs during the season . In addition, Jacques Kallis' most expensive foreign purchase was completely disappointing and in the meantime was not even set up for some games. The series of defeats ensured that Charu Sharma was fired as CEO during the season and replaced by Brijesh Patell . Coach Venkatesh Prasad was also about to be fired, but was able to save his job because he publicly apologized for his team's poor performance. Owner Vijay Mallya also criticized Charu Sharma and Rahul Dravid for a failed purchasing policy and regretted not having personally taken care of the composition of the squad.
