Rahul Sharad Dravid (nickname: "The Wall"), (born January 11, 1973 in Indore , Madhya Pradesh , India ), is an Indian cricketer . A jury from the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack named him one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 2000 . In 2004 he was named both Player of the Year and Test Player of the Year by the ICC .

Career

Rahul Dravid made his test debut for India in June 1996 against England in London. He was the third Indian cricketer and the sixth player in the world, after Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar , to score at least 10,000 runs during his testing career. His 10,000. Run he achieved in his 120th test. This was played against South Africa in March 2008 in Chennai . He made his debut for the Indian One-Day International Cricket Team against Sri Lanka on April 3, 1996 in Singapore. He also cracked the 10,000 runs mark at ODIs. He succeeded in this in February 2007 in a match against Sri Lanka. This makes him one of only five cricketers, alongside Jacques Kallis , Brian Lara , Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved at least 10,000 runs in tests and ODIs. For the Indian team, Dravid took part in three cricket world championships ( 1999 , 2003 and 2007 ). At the 1999 World Cup he was the top scorer of the tournament with 461 runs. In 1999 he managed to set the world record for an ODI partnership twice. The first time in May at the 1999 World Cup against Sri Lanka , when he scored 318 runs with Saurav Ganguly and the second time in November on the New Zealand Tour , when he and Sachin Tendulkar got 331 runs.
