format
In two preliminary round groups with six teams each, everyone played against each other, with a win earning two points, a tie or no result one point. The first three of each group qualified for the so-called Super Six, in which each team still played against the teams that had not met in the preliminary round and whose results they took over into this round. From this, the first four of the table qualified for the semi-finals, the winners of which then played the final. In total there were 42 encounters.
