ICC Trophy 1997

The 1997 ICC Trophy was the qualifying tournament for the non-test nations for the 1999 Cricket World Cup . The tournament was played between March 24th and April 12th, 1997 in Malaysia . The winner was Bangladesh , who beat Kenya in the final with 2 wickets. Furthermore, Scotland qualified for the World Cup.

A total of 22 teams from the following countries took part in the tournament:

format

The 22 teams were divided into two groups with six and two groups with five teams in the preliminary round. The first and second group qualified for the intermediate round. This was again carried out as two groups with four teams each. The group first and second qualified for the semi-finals. Their winners, in turn, then carried out the final. In addition, all other placements were played out. The finalists and the winner of the game for third place qualified for the world championship.
