history

Before becoming an Associate Member

Cricket has been known in the Netherlands since British soldiers brought it with them in the Napoleonic Wars in the 19th century. As a result, several cricket clubs were established until the Dutch Cricket Union was founded in 1983. However, cricket remained an amateur sport in the kingdom for a long time. Although individual international games were played by Dutch teams from the end of the 19th century, great successes could not be achieved. In 1964 the Dutch national team managed to win against the test nation Australia. Joined the ICC in 1966.

However, there they lost all games and were eliminated in the preliminary round. At the Cricket World Cup 2007 you failed again in the preliminary round, where you could only win against Scotland . With third place in the qualifying tournament in 2009 you could not only qualify for the Cricket World Cup 2011 , but also immediately secured ODI status until 2013. Twenty20 Internationals

The qualifying tournament in 2008 was won together with Ireland and could thus qualify. At the tournament itself, they surprised with a win against England . However, since they lost to Pakistan and they were beaten by England, they ultimately failed due to the poorer net run rate in the preliminary round. In qualifying for the ICC World Twenty20 2010 , they only finished fourth and thus failed. The same was the case two years later when they also finished fourth in qualifying for the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 . At the next round in 2013 they were able to prevail again and in the final round even the full member Zimbabwe was able to leave behind in the preliminary round.
