ICC World Twenty20 2010
The ICC World Twenty20 2010 was the third world championship in men's Twenty20 cricket and took place from April 30th to May 16th, 2010 in the West Indies . The venues were Barbados , St. Lucia and Guyana . In the final, England prevailed against Australia .
qualification
The ten test nations are automatically qualified. The last two participants were determined in a qualifying tournament, the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier , which took place from February 9th to 13th, 2010 in the United Arab Emirates . In addition to the host, Ireland , Scotland , Afghanistan , USA, the Netherlands , Kenya and Canada also took part in this tournament. Afghanistan and Ireland qualified as winners and runner-up of this tournament for the finals in the Caribbean.
Tournament mode
The preliminary round consisted of four groups of 3 teams each, in which everyone played a game against everyone. There were two points for the winning team and no points for the losing team. If no winner could be determined (for example due to abandonment due to rain), both teams received one point each. If after the completed innings both teams had both scored the same number of runs, a super over followed . The first two teams in each group qualified for the intermediate round, the so-called Super 8 , in which they each played three more games. This was followed by the semi-finals and final. The group division of the Super 8 and the corresponding pairings were based on the seed lists of the preliminary round, not on the placements. For example, Pakistan was treated as "A1" even when the team finished second in their group. Only if the first or second seed did not qualify for the next round, such as in Group A Bangladesh, was the seeding list taken by the unset team.
