ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2013

The ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2013 was the qualifying tournament for the ICC World Twenty20 2014 and took place between November 15 and 30, 2013 in the United Arab Emirates . In addition to the six associate and affiliate members of the ICC, the best sections of the last qualifying tournament and the host, another 9 teams qualified through regional pre-qualifications. In the final, Ireland beat Afghanistan with 68 runs and both qualified for the final tournament. Other teams that were able to qualify at this tournament are Nepal, United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands and Hong Kong.

format

The sixteen teams were divided into two groups of eight teams each. In these each team played against each other. The first three of each group take the above qualification path, the fourth and fifth placed in each group the lower. In the upper quarter-finals, the second and third placed first cross against each other, whose winners meet the group leaders in the upper semi-finals. The fourth and fifth placed groups compete in the lower quarter-finals and the winners play in the lower semifinals against the losers of the upper quarter-finals. The places are then played out and the first 6 qualify for the final tournament.
