Cricket World Cup 1996
The 1996 ICC Cricket World Cup , which was held from February 16 to March 17, 1996 in India , Pakistan and Sri Lanka , was the sixth Cricket World Cup . The World Cup is played in the one-day international format, with each team playing one innings over a maximum of 50 overs . In the final, Sri Lanka defeated the team from Australia .
Attendees
In addition to the nine nations with test status, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands and Kenya, which prevailed in the ICC Trophy 1994 , qualified as participants. The twelve participants were thus:

17 stadiums in India, six stadiums in Pakistan and three stadiums in Sri Lanka were selected as the venues.
format
In two preliminary round groups, each with six teams, everyone played against each other, with a win earning two points, a tie or no result one point. The first four of each group qualified for the quarter-finals. Its winners qualified for the two semi-finals, the winners of which in turn played the final. In total there were 37 encounters.
