Cuttack ( Oriya କଟକ Kaṭaka [ ˈkɔʈɔkɔ ]) is one of the oldest and second largest cities in the Indian state of Odisha . Until 1950 it was the capital of Orissa (Odisha). It has about 600,000 inhabitants (2011 census).

Cuttack lies on the Mahanadi River . One of its attractions is the Qadam-i-Rasul shrine from the 18th century, used by both Hindus and Muslims. She is famous for her silversmith work (tarakasi). The company United Textiles Inc. has its headquarters there, it is considered the largest employer in the city.
