The R. Premadasa Stadium is a cricket stadium in Maligawatta, Colombo , Sri Lanka . It was inaugurated in 1986 and today has a capacity of 35,000. It was named in 1994 after the assassinated president of the country, Ranasinghe Premadasa .

One-day cricket
The first international match took place in this stadium in 1986 between Pakistan and Sri Lanka and has been used regularly for such since then. Two preliminary round matches of the Cricket World Cup 1996 and six preliminary rounds, both semi-finals and the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2002 took place here. After a renovation with an increase in audience capacity from 14,000 to 35,000, five preliminary round matches, a quarter-final and a semi-final of the 2011 Cricket World Cup were played in this stadium.
Test cricket
The stadium also serves as the venue for home games of test matches for the Sri Lankan national cricket team. The first time was against Australia in 1992 .
Twenty20
At the ICC World Twenty20 2012 , six games each of the preliminary and intermediate round, as well as both semi-finals and the final are to be played.
