Mullumbimby is a place in the northeast of the Australian state of New South Wales with around 3,100 inhabitants. The place is 4 meters above sea level . Mullumbimby is generally only called "Mullum" by its residents. The slogan of the place is "the biggest little town in Australia" (German: "The biggest little town in Australia"). It is believed that the name "Mullumbimby" comes from the language of the Bunjalung Aborigines who originally inhabited the area. Translated, the name of the place means something like "small, round hill" and therefore seems to clearly refer to Mount Chincogan , which "watches over the place" at a height of 308 m.
Mullumbimby is the administrative seat of the Byron Shire constituency . The administration building is located on "Station Street".

The place is 19 km from Byron Bay and is in the hinterland of the coast. The closest major city is Brisbane in Queensland at a distance of 165 km. Mullumbimby is approximately 2.5 miles from an access point to the Pacific Highway . The Brunswick River flows through Mullumbimby . There are parks along the river, which offer shady areas, for example for picnics . There are a large number of specialist shops in the village. There are two hotels in Mullumbimby: The Middle Pub and the Chincogan Tavern. There is also a museum and a swimming pool in the village . In addition, on the outskirts of Mullumbimby is the "Heritage Park", in which more than 300 species of native rainforest trees have been planted. A winding path runs through this park along the Brunswick River.
In the late 1960s , Mullumbimby rose to become one of the most important centers of the alternative lifestyle in Australia and today the place is far more confident about this reputation than the more famous Nimbin . The Chincogan Fiesta takes place in Mullumbimby every September . It is a kind of carnival in which there is a race from the local post office to the top of Mount Chincogan and back. The winner of this race will receive a smaller amount of money and the event proceeds will be donated to charity. Every third Saturday of the month the “Mullumbimby Markets” are held in town. These markets mainly sell handmade art , clothing and jewelry . The rugby club Mullumbimby Giants is of great sporting importance.
