Klein-Netterden is a district of the city of Emmerich am Rhein with 798 inhabitants. It is located east of downtown Emmerich and borders the Dutch village of Netterden in the northeast , which can be reached via the border crossing.

In contrast to the other districts of Emmerich, there is neither a church nor a school in Klein-Netterden. In the past, customs played an important role in the border town, today agriculture is the main branch of the economy. From the Bundeswehr location in Emmerich, which was dissolved in 2008, the former target practice area and the former ammunition depot, which is now used for the civil storage of economic goods, are located in the district.

Mayor

The city council has elected mayors for the seven districts of Emmerich since 1969. Your main task is to look after the interests of the district towards the city. Klein-Netterden: Dutch, French, Prussian and now German

Before 1794, Klein-Netterden was Dutch and belonged to the province of Gelderland . In 1937 the municipality of Amt Klein-Netterden was incorporated into the Amt of Elten , in 1945 in the city of Emmerich, and in 1952 in the Amt of Elten.

Since July 1, 1969, Klein-Netterden has belonged to the city of Emmerich. In the first phase of regional reform in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Elten, Rees-Land and Vrasselt offices were dissolved and the towns of Emmerich, Rees and Wesel were restructured through the law on the reorganization of municipalities in the Rees district. When the city of Emmerich was reorganized, Borghees , Dornick , Hüthum, Klein-Netterden, Praest and Vrasselt became part of the city of Emmerich. On October 1, 1969, Rees County became Rees County . In a second reorganization phase on January 1, 1975 by the Lower Rhine Act , several municipalities were reorganized and the Rees district dissolved. Emmerich, Rees and Klein-Netterden have been part of the Kleve district since then .
