The Feroz Shah Kotla Ground is a cricket stadium in New Delhi , India . It is the second oldest cricket stadium in India after Eden Gardens in Kolkata .

Capacity & Infrastructure

The stadium was established in 1883 and today has a capacity of 40,715 spectators. The ends are called Pavilion End and Stadium End .

International cricket

The first international game in the stadium was a test between India and the West Indies between November 10-14, 1948. The first One-Day International took place on September 15, 1982 between India and Sri Lanka . At all Cricket World Cups that have taken place in India so far, games have been played in the stadium. In 1987 and 1996 a preliminary round match was played in this stadium, and in 2011 four preliminary round matches. In December 2009 a game against Sri Lanka had to be stopped because the pitch was considered too dangerous. As a result, the stadium was closed to international games for a year, which meant that it could still be used as a venue for the 2011 World Cup.

National cricket

The stadium serves as the home of the Delhi cricket team in both the Ranji Trophy and other national competitions. The stadium is also used for home games for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League .
