The 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup , which was held on the islands of the British West Indies from March 13 to April 28, 2007 , is the ninth tournament for the most important trophy in cricket . Even today, traditional test cricket over five days is still considered the highest form of cricket and the best cricket nation can be considered the country that has achieved the most successes in test cricket over the years, but the most important individual event is by far World Cup that has been held since 1975. World champion was Australia , player of the tournament Glenn McGrath .

format

All games were played in one-day cricket format, with innings limited to 50 overs and one innings per team.

All games started at 9:30 a.m. local time, although it should be noted that Jamaica is one time zone further away from Central Europe than any other venue. The first innings are then scheduled for 09:30 - 13:00, the second for 13:45 - 17:15. As usual with important tournaments, an additional game day was planned for all games in the event that there were long interruptions in rain; but if possible, if necessary with shortened innings, the game is concluded on the scheduled day. The Duckworth-Lewis method , which has meanwhile proven itself, is used.

For the first time, 16 nations competed in this tournament, which is held in eight countries in the English-speaking Caribbean.

The 10 test cricket nations England , Australia , South Africa , New Zealand , West Indies , India , Pakistan , Sri Lanka , Zimbabwe and Bangladesh , also Kenya as the only country with official one-day international status at the time of the draw , were automatically qualified five qualifiers of the ICC Trophy 2005 in Ireland , namely Scotland , Ireland , Canada , Bermuda and the Netherlands .

From four preliminary round groups of four teams each, the first two qualified for the intermediate rounds (Super 8), in which all qualifiers competed against each other in one group, only the four results from the preliminary round of these teams among each other were taken. After all, the first played against the fourth and the second against the third in the two semi-finals. The final took place in Barbados on April 28th, there was no match for third place.
