The Sabina Park is a cricket stadium in Kingston , Jamaica . Sabina Park is the home stadium of the Kingston Cricket Club. The stadium has also hosted the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League since 2013 .
history
The Kingston Cricket Club had the stadium built in 1863. The first First Class Match took place in 1895, the first Test in 1930 when the West Indies played against England . This game also made Sabina Park well known. It set many records that had existed for several decades. Another special feature was that the test match lasted 9 days, although the last two days could not be played due to rain. The game ended in a draw as the English team couldn't miss their ship back to England.
The sports facility, built in 1930 and expanded several times since then, currently provides 21,000 seats on two covered grandstands. The last major renovation took place on the occasion of the 2007 Cricket World Cup . In order to be able to play one of the two semi-finals here, the capacity has been increased by 5000 seats. Original plans to expand to over 30,000 seats were dropped for financial reasons. This means that Sabina Park is smaller than the Greenfield Stadium in Trelawny Parish , which was completed in 2007 and is only used for training matches . The ends are named Blue Mountains End and Headley Stand End .
