List A Cricket

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As List A cricket is known in cricket high-class one-day games ( one-day matches ). They have the same relationship to the corresponding international matches, the One-Day Internationals , as first-class cricket to test cricket .

definition

Like all so-called one-day games, they consist of only one innings per team, which is always limited to a predetermined over number . Therefore, one-day games are often referred to with the more appropriate term limited-overs matches . For List A games, this limit must be at least 40 over, so Twenty20 games are not included. Almost all of the ten full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) hold a List A competition, the over limit of which was historically between 40 and 65 overs. Games that have to be shortened to less than 40 overs due to (rain) interruptions are also considered List-A games; the decisive factor is the original schedule of the game.

status

The term was originally introduced by Philip Bailey, a longtime member of the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians (ACS), to create a first-class cricket category for statistics in one-day games. The name arose simply from the fact that games were divided into an A and a B list due to their importance. This term was not officially recognized by the ICC until 2006. Since then, the ICC and the corresponding national associations have the last word on the corresponding classification of games, but these are required to be based on the standard created by the ACS. The classification previously created by the ASC therefore remained unchanged.

Games with List A status

  • One-Day Internationals (ODI)
  • The most important one-day competitions for full members of the ICC (sometimes more than one such tournament per country)
  • So-called tour matches between test teams and the main first-class teams

Games without List A status

  • Twenty20 cricket including the corresponding international matches
  • Preparatory games for the World Cup ( warm-up matches )
  • Other tourist matches (e.g. games against first-class teams, such as universities that do not participate in the first-class championship)
  • Festival and friendly games

List A Twenty20 Matches

High-class Twenty20 matches are not considered to be List A games, but the List A Twenty20 status has now been officially created for them, just like classic one-day cricket .
