Cricket World Cup 1979

The 1979 ICC Cricket World Cup , which was held in England from June 9 to 23, 1979 , was the second Cricket World Cup . This World Cup was held in the One-Day International format, with each team playing one innings over a maximum of 60 overs . In the final, West Indies defeated the host English team and was able to defend the title from 1975.

In two preliminary round groups with four teams each, everyone played against each other, with a win bringing four points, a tie or no result two points. The first two of this group qualified for the semi-finals, the winners of which played the final. In total there were 15 encounters.
